Aareboge Arena Invitational report

One week before the Swiss Magic Masters the Aareboge Arena Invitational took place. The participants of the Invitational qualified themselves via top finishes on our two first Aareboge Arena Leagues or at the Invitational Qualifier tournament a week before.

The Meta was as expected which means a lot of Golos.

  • 3 Golos Fires King
  • 1 Monoblack Pranks
  • 1 Simic Food
  • 1 Jeskai Fires
  • 1 Bant Oko Food
  • 1 Golgari Adventures

After a Top 8 in the Double Elimination System we had our finals:

Reymon (Golos ) vs Dan, the Mind Sculptor (Mono B)

I (Dan) already defeated 1 Golos player on their way to the finals and was also able to win the first set of the finals 2-0 with some very quick draws.

Unfortunately for me, the tournament format is called „Double Elimination“ for a reason. I would have to win another match, since Reymon managed to walk through to the finals without a loss. This time around the Returned King himself, „Kenrith“ came to safe the day for Reymon. He managed to win a 2-1 score. Congratulation!

Kenrith works like a swiss army knife. Against aggro, you can gain at least 10 life a turn. For only 6 mana you can return golos, make some zombies and give your team haste and trample and essentially win out of nowhere.

After the Swiss Magic Masters & Mythic Championship 5 this weekend, we should expect to see bannings in Standard due to Golos and other green ramp strategies that dominate the format at the moment.
